Solar panel prices

Find out how much you can earn by installing solar panels:

Solar panel prices

Assumptions

Installed cost

The solar panel system price includes:

  • Sharp solar panels (UK).
  • SMA Inverter (German).
  • Schüco mounting system (German high quality anodised aluminium and stainless steel).
  • VAT.
  • Standard scaffolding (£350 + VAT).

This is the fully installed cost, using high quality components, with no hidden extras.

We consider requests for price matching on a like-for-like basis for systems using cheaper panels, inverters or mounting systems.

Generation income

  • The annual amount you would expect to receive from your energy supplier.  It is paid regardless of whether the electricity is used or exported.
  • This is know as the generation tariff.  The rate is 21p per kWh.

Export income

  • The energy supply companies are required by the government to pay you, in addition to the generation tariff, 50% of the electricity that is generated.  The rate is 3.1p per kWh.

Savings on bills

  • How much you are likely to save on your electricity bill.
  • Cost of electricity is 13p per kWh.
  • 50% of the electricity generated by the solar panels is used in your home.

General assumptions

  • Excludes any increase in electricity prices, which would make the savings even greater.
  • The panels will not suffer from losses in output over time (losses are likely to be more than offset by electricity price increases).
  • Excludes inflation.
  • Excludes maintenance (cleaning of panels, replacement of inverter, insurance costs).  The inverter may need changing every 8 to 10 years.  The inverter costs approximately 10% of the system cost to replace.  Sharp solar panels are self cleaning.  Your household insurance premium may increase as a result of installing solar panels.
  • None or very little shading (< 20%).
  • Tilt of panels is 30°.
